Unity Dialogue Scripts

Dialogue Trigger is the smallest useful dialogue setup. Start it from an NPC, a sign or any interactable object, and the player reads its lines one at a time with a typewriter effect, pressing a key to advance. The lines live on the component itself, so there is no graph editor or data format to learn.

When conversations need branching choices, conditions or speaker portraits, the Dialogue System kit covers that, and it is listed below with the other kits.

Start with Dialogue Trigger

Simple NPC dialogue with sequential messages, typewriter effect, and input to advance. No branching — just clean text sequences.

What these scripts need

Read from each script's source, so this list stays in step with the code.

  • Uses TextMeshPro (the TMPro namespace) for text.

    All of them: Dialogue Trigger

  • Uses uGUI (UnityEngine.UI): needs a Canvas in the scene.

    All of them: Dialogue Trigger

  • Reads the legacy Input Manager (UnityEngine.Input). If Project Settings > Player > Active Input Handling is set to Input System Package only, Unity throws an InvalidOperationException; set it to Both.
