What changed
Cinemachine 3 renamed its namespace from Cinemachine to Unity.Cinemachine, and replaced both CinemachineVirtualCamera and CinemachineFreeLook with a single CinemachineCamera class. Unity's planned changes for 6.6 make Cinemachine 3 the default and end Cinemachine 2 support after 6.3 LTS.
Window > Cinemachine > Cinemachine Upgrader converts the cameras in your scenes and prefabs. It does not rewrite your scripts: any code that references the old classes or the old namespace has to be updated by hand.

- Do I have to upgrade to Cinemachine 3 right away?
- Not while you stay on Unity 6.3 LTS or earlier, where Cinemachine 2 is still supported. Plan the move before going to 6.6, where Cinemachine 3 is the default, and run the upgrader on a branch so you can compare the cameras.
- What replaces CinemachineFreeLook's three orbits?
- A CinemachineCamera with an Orbital Follow component for position (it has a three-ring orbit mode) and a Rotation Composer for aim. The upgrader sets these up for cameras in your scenes.
